Layla is a curious and complicated Amstaff terrier/boxer mix born in 2000. She is big eyed, alert, and very tuned into her surroundings. She's quick to react if an unknown person or dog approaches, switching from relaxed mode to defensive posture in a flash. Anyone who doesn't know her well may be surprised by her quirky behavior. As an example, she absolutely hates the hose and she hasn't forgotten one very hot summer when volunteers tried to cool her down and she strenuously objected. These same volunteers now experience her discomfort every season of the year as she continues to refuse their invitations to venture outside. On the other hand, those people she's come to trust are Layla's friends for life and in their presence she's both responsive and sociable, though always somewhat cautious. Layla walks well on leash and is quite calm in her kennel. She waits patiently for both treats and outings and, to her credit, is a quick study when it comes to refocusing her attention off of what she may find irritating or disturbing. This cherub cheeked lady would be best placed in a home of gentle, experienced adult owners who understand that dogs, just like people, have their idiosyncrasies. Layla would enjoy a calm, laid back environment where she's truly able to let her guard down once she carefully tiptoes in. Kid, dog, and cat free a must.
